Routewise began as a response to a frustration I experienced while planning my own solo trip through Thailand. Organizing destinations, accommodations, transportation, and activities across multiple cities quickly became a fragmented process spread across Google Maps, Notes, spreadsheets, saved social posts, and booking platforms. What should have felt exciting instead became operationally complex—requiring constant route recalculation, schedule reshuffling, and logistical planning every time something changed.

Problem

Most travel tools help users discover and save information, but few help transform that information into a practical, optimized itinerary. Independent travelers planning multi-destination trips still need to manually organize attractions, estimate travel times, balance daily pacing, and rebuild schedules when plans shift—creating unnecessary cognitive overhead in an otherwise enjoyable planning process.

Design Decisions

Rather than relying on open-ended prompts, I designed a guided setup flow that collects structured trip inputs before involving AI. This reduces ambiguity, improves itinerary quality, and makes the experience feel more trustworthy and predictable—especially for users unfamiliar with prompt engineering.

This reduces ambiguity, improves itinerary quality, and makes the experience feel more trustworthy and predictable—especially for users unfamiliar with prompt engineering.

Since travelers navigate cities from where they stay—not from arbitrary map centers—I introduced accommodation as a required optimization input. This allows the AI to generate materially more practical itineraries based on real starting points.

To maintain the value of AI-generated logistics while preserving flexibility, I constrained post-generation editing to moving or removing activities rather than full manual schedule editing. This creates meaningful control without undermining the optimization engine.

Routewise transforms fragmented travel planning into a guided, collaborative workflow—helping users move from scattered inspiration to optimized itinerary with significantly less manual effort. The final experience combines structured planning, contextual decision support, and AI-powered optimization into a single cohesive product designed for travelers who want both control and convenience.
